CHARACTER NAME: Outlaw/Inez Temple
FANDOM: Marvel/Deadpool/X-Men
CHRONOLOGY: Post-Deadpool Suicide Kings mini-series (Aug. 2009)
BACKGROUND:
What is your character’s world like? What is their role in it? This doesn’t have to be terribly detailed, but we’d like a good picture of their canon to draw from, so make sure you explain anything we might not understand and also that it’s in your own words.
The world is the X-Men world. Regular humans living among mutants, particularly in North America. Outlaw is one of those mutants and so has been prejudiced against since birth, most likely. She is a Texan transplant, now living in NYC. She is a tagged mutant, one of the 198 who were forced to be tagged and register during the U.S. government civil war vs. mutants. Being a mercenary, she is ambivalent to the law and would most likely prefer to live where she isn't under the government's radar. There is a lot of mutant hate in her world, something she cannot stand, since she was terribly bullied as a child and it still bothers/haunts her to this day. She would more than likely kill a mutant hater in a psychotic fit of rage than allow them to be charged/arrested by police.
PERSONALITY:
What is your character like, in at least a paragraph? What are their dreams, their fears, their general quirks and the issues that make them, them, and does their personality shift in any way after or before the point you are taking them from? If they are from a different or alternate universe, or if their personality radically shifts due to events during the point in time that you are taking them from, how is their new personality different from their normal one?
Outlaw first appeared in Deadpool 65 at a mercenary gym and the first thing she did was flirt with Deadpool. The next time she saw him, she was hired as a bodyguard for Dazzler and left because Dazzler's manager tried to grab her behind. She pulled a gun on Deadpool because he called her 'Crazy Inez', then grabbed his butt as she walked away.
Outlaw is a Texan at heart. She loves her state, her country and her family (despite all of her known living relatives now being deceased.) She constantly misses "home" despite moving away to make a living. She uses Texan colloquialisms when she talks and speaks with a Texan accent. She may not use "big" words, but isn't stupid: she knows "the score" and isn't afraid to speak up about it, as well as even tease or make fun of her friends light-heartedly. Frex: In Cable and Deadpool, she yells at Agent X, her boss, to "get back on the bull" because his priorities were about food and not helping to save people.
But she's definitely not above playing stupid or innocent if caught! (When she and Alex attempted to steal the Punisher's guns, he caught them red-handed. She made a number of excuses, playing innocent and flirting with him at the same time in hopes of weaseling her way out of the situation.)
She's a Cowgirl first and foremost: she's brash, speaks her mind, loves her guns, and makes no apologies for WHO she is, what she wears (extremely revealing outfits to say the least or the fact that she has large fake breasts) and what she does for a living as someone who kills others for money. (She also wears a wig, which I assume is for safety reasons as well as completes her whole cowgirl look).
But, she is also very outgoing and very, very friendly -- as long as no one is saying anything about mutants (particularly her) being freaks or crazy. However, her temper is a major issue. She might fly off the handle about anything: she also really doesn't like it when someone touches her guns, if someone threatens someone she cares about or attempts to cash in on a hit she's already working on.
At some times, she's just a typical girl: she loves shopping and clothes, but she differs from this by also being a bit of a rash and competitive tomboy. She loves dancing, drinking and strip poker. (She's kinky and enjoys sex -- at one point when Deadpool (who is a mere four-inches-tall since having been affected by Pym dust at the time) suggests they get it on, since while he may be short in stature, he can "navigate." Outlaw's immediate response is: "Well, hang on now, let's think of all the possibilities this could mean..." )
She is by no means a classy girl -- at one point in canon, she is removing a bullet from Agent X's neck. The way she sits on his chest (straddling him while wearing a skirt) suggests this, as does her dancing to a song she likes while shooting her guns in the air. (This doesn't necessarily mean she would burp in someone's face in a rude manner, however. She still has manners.) She wears tiny tops, short shorts and chaps because she likes them (I surmise she likes the way they look. I also believe if Outlaw wasn't a mercenary, she would probably be a stripper. That's just who her character is.)
Inez is a shameless flirt and flirts with EVERYONE. She's flirted with the Punisher, the Thing, Johnny Storm, Agent X, Taskmaster, Deadpool, Domino, Johnny Dee, among others. Being flirtatious is really just a part of her nature. It doesn't matter to her what the person looks like at all.
Outlaw will definitely join in to fight in a battle, but does weigh all the options first. She is a tactical strategist and will often weigh the options in which the outcome of a fight would be.
If anyone calls her a name (particularly Crazy Inez), she'll not only threaten their life in various nasty ways, but will act on it -- shooting Agent X, punching through Black Swan's spine, knocking Deadpool out -- and then moments later, will be back to normal, not really holding much of a grudge. She will even hit her closest friends, apologize and then figure everything is back to normal.
Being a mutant with superhuman strength also means she has high metabolism and eats a lot -- perhaps more than her fellow male mercenary counterparts combined (at least Agent X and Taskmaster. I doubt she eats more than Deadpool). She is embarrassed about it a bit -- in one scene she sneaks out to get five hot dogs, when she had previously told Agent X they looked like they were made out of "weasel meat."
Her dream is to be the best female mercenary and shot bar none. That and live up to her father's words of being responsible with her mutant abilities. (Something which I'm sure gives her pause about her life as a mercenary). She hopes to be less unlucky in love. Her greatest fear would be those she loves making fun of her, calling her a freak or her (now deceased) father disowning he/being ashamed of her. She wants to die in a blaze of gunfire. Her ultimate fight would be a showdown OK Corral style.
She's a bit of a lonely soul, but would do anything for her friends (who include Magma, Sandi Brandenburg, Deadpool, Taskmaster, Agent X and Bob, Agent of Hydra). She is also effusively affectionate to those she likes or loves, be it either by grabbing their behind or just offering a hand to help out.
CLASS: Hero or Villain, Anti-Hero or Mass Murdering Psychopath, or just pretending to be one while really acting like the other? Will they keep their dog tags, or will they strike out on their own?.
I would say Outlaw is an anti-hero, because despite trying to do the right thing for the most part, she still kills people for money. She would prefer to join a team doing the "right" thing (if she had a choice over "right" and "wrong"), but would just as likely work as a mercenary.
SUPERHERO NAME: You'll be asked to keep a secret identity, but whether you keep to it or not, other Capes will be calling you by your super alias when you give it to them.
Outlaw. She named herself after her grandfather, the original Outlaw Kid. She also prefers to be called this over anything else. Her friends can call her Inez, however.
ALTER EGO: You character’s civilian name and job! Inez Temple. Mercenary.
POWER: > If your character has a canon superpower, or supernatural skill, please list it here. If they don’t, or you feel that their power could stand to be augmented in some small way, then come up with a new power for them and list here, making sure to tell us that it is a Non-Canon power.
Outlaw's canon mutant powers include superhuman strength, eyesight and durability. It's estimated she can lift up to 10 tonnes. She can punch through brick walls and even people's bodies. She can heal herself (to what extent it's unknown, but her healing ability is not nearly as strong as Deadpool or Wolverine's) from multiple bullet wounds as well. If she gets hit with a bullet, she'll go down, but won't be out. (As she has said when Agent X asked her how hard she could push she replied: "With multiple bullet wounds? Pretty damn hard.") She is an expert marksman, perhaps rivaling Bullseye, highly skilled with a lasso and can fight without guns (but usually prefers not to.) Her fighting style is more like boxing. She does not know any martial arts.
A Note: Characters from Eastern sources (Anime, manga, etc) are reminded to adapt their powers to a western setting – for example, characters from the series “Naruto” would turn their most prominent ninjutsu into the super-powers they receive upon arriving here.
COMMUNITY POST SAMPLE: How you will be playing in the main community and therefore, of a decent length. Preferably a paragraph or two, so that you can show us your character’s voice; if you can make us laugh or outright scare the pants off us, you’re doing a good job!
[A tall blonde, dressed in a Stetson, cowboy boots, short Daisy Duke style shorts and a top that pretty much just about covered the basics walks in and looks at the camera, frowning. She puts her hands on her hips and raises one eyebrow.]
I dunno 'bout ya'll, but Ah've got no idea how I got here. All's I was doin' was takin' a break from the Big Apple and was 'bout to go watch a stampede with hot, sweaty, Cowboys an now I'm here. And to boot, ya'll? My guns aren't here with me.
Somebody best start talkin' before I start rippin' up these registration papers. I didn't wanna register back for the U.S. government, I sure as heck ain't doin' it now.
[She breathes in, slightly still rankled, but resigned. Then suddenly perks up with a big smile.]
Any'a ya'll fellas feel like showin' a gal a good time? Y'know, least where the local bar's at, All-U-C'n-Eat Rib and Wing Buffet, a nice place to eat an maybe where a Cowgirl can get some more clothes? Texans don't much like the cold and Ah'm freezin'.
THIRD PERSON: The name of the game is introspection, folks. This sample will both showcase how you will play in the logs community, and how well you understand your character’s motivations, hopes, dreams, quirks, etc, etc. This sample should be a bit longer than your first, and, again, make us cry, make us laugh, or make us never want to meet your character in a back alley and you’re doing a good job!
Six bottles of beer and three empty shot glasses sat on the bar. Outlaw'd winked at the bartender and he'd told her: "Drinks were on the house for the prettiest Cowgirl he'd ever seen."
Little did he know, she could easily outdrink the heaviest boozer in the place and still walk out standing and STILL not miss a shot, to boot.
She'd given him a beaming smile and winked at him and told him he was "Aces, darlin'," but wasn't quite in her regular flirtatious mood. ....Yet.
She'd peeled the labels off the beers and rolled them around on the bar. A man at the end of the bar had bought her a cherry whiskey shot and she nodded at him with a smile when she downed it. He looked dumbfounded she'd even paid him mind.
No, fellas were what was on her mind right now. Fellas and the amount of times a gal like her'd struck out with 'em. There was Alex, who cheated on her with her best friend, Sandi. Then that fella from Ashley Madison. Then Wade... and Wade was... well, Wade was Wade, 'nuff said.
Seems like all she wanted to do was have a fella around, a real Cowboy who'd treat her right in and out of the saddle and heck, if he was emotionally closed off, slept like a horse and ate like a pig, all the better.
It was a typical cowgirl problem: the lonely soul.
Tony'd said it would take a special kinda man to be with her. When she'd asked him: "What the heck is that sposed to mean?" He'd replied that she was a certain type of 'delicate.' And just before he'd hung up the phone, she could've sworn she heard him say he was glad he was out of the country.
All in all, the one night stands were so bad. Heck, they were downright fun. Easy come, easy go, amirite? she thought. Just it'd be nice to find a fella who stuck around and that maybe one day I could settle down with...
She downed her seventh beer and looked up at the bartender. She grinned.
"Hey hon. Name's Outlaw. What time you get off, darlin'? And hey -- do you like country music?"
